/kômˈbo͞oCHə/
Kombucha is an effervescent fermentation of sweetened tea that is used as a functional food. Sometimes referred to as a “mushroom”, the Kombucha culture is actually a symbiotic colony of friendly bacteria and beneficial yeast (SCOBY).
This tea-based drink has been known for over 2500 years in China and Japan and was used as a daily health tonic and natural remedy.
René’s Kombucha is fermented/cultured for 6-8 days. This, and the use of our selected organic teas, assures a very pleasant flavour. René’s Kombucha is NOT pasteurised and hence contains the live cultures provided by the SCOBY (Symbiotic Culture Of Bacteria and Yeast).

Hi Rene,
I really enjoy your Kombucha. It’s lovely. I’d like to be able to buy it in bulk – or a least not in individual glass bottles. My family and I can drink A LOT of it – but I can’t justify amassing so many bottles. Do you have any plans to make it in larger flagons or large plastic contains?
Thanks very much,
Shelly

Haha! Yes, Shelley, I’m just negotiating with a retired petrol station in Auckland. We’ll have Kombucha on the pump there 😉
No seriously, at this point 750ml bottles only. I’m happy to take the empty bottles back from you. They are always welcome as sample bottles! Have you considered making it yourself? The Wise Cicada in Newmarket and CERES Wholefoods in Ellerslie are selling my starter kits…

Thanks Rene. You’re right. I should make it myself. But I struggle with laziness and fear that it won’t be as nice as yours. But I’ll give it a try.

Hi Mia, both Farro Fresh in Auckland and Moore Wilson in Wellington are selling my Kombucha for $15.50/bottle. I suggest you get one of my starter kits and make your own! Way cheaper!!! Where are you based?

Queenstown! When you sell to your suppliers, do you offer a suggested retail price?

I have a fixed wholesale price plus freight. Shipping from Warkworth is incuring a higher freight cost than to Auckland, hence the higher price. Taste Nature in Dunedin is selling my starter kits.

Is this kombucha pasteurized?

No. This is a living product. It is not carbonated either. The fizz in the bottle develops from the live cultures slowly continuing the fermentation process.
