René’s Kombucha

/kômˈbo͞oCHə/

Rene's KombuchaKombucha is an effervescent fermentation of sweetened tea that is used as a functional food. Sometimes referred to as a “mushroom”, the Kombucha culture is actually a symbiotic colony of friendly bacteria and beneficial yeast (SCOBY).

This tea-based drink has been known for over 2500 years in China and Japan and was used as a daily health tonic and natural remedy.

René’s Kombucha is fermented/cultured for 6-8 days. This, and the use of our selected organic teas, assures a very pleasant flavour. René’s Kombucha is NOT pasteurised and hence contains the live cultures provided by the SCOBY (Symbiotic Culture Of Bacteria and Yeast).

Kombucha drinkers around the world have reported a massive list of ailments which have responded positively to drinking Kombucha on a regular basis, far more details on this fellow New Zealand blog here.

René's Kombucha

Similar to lightly carbonated apple cider, the taste is sparkling and, in our opinion, very pleasant.
Over time the amount of carbon dioxide – fizz- in bottled Kombucha increases. This is due to the continued slow culturing process by the live micro-organisms in the liquid. Using organic fruit teas from two suppliers René’s Kombucha offers some refreshing fruit flavours that are well-received by young and old.
Currently we provide these flavour options:
Pomegranate, Lemon & Ginger, Red Berry; and our newest addition: Maqui & Guarana!

Rene's Kombucha
In addition to high-quality organic fruit teas, all our Kombucha is brewed with organic Tulsi (Sacred Basil) and organic green tea. We use organic golden cane sugar as the fuel for our Kombucha cultures.

Due to fair trade regulations and the current NZ legislation governing health claims about one’s products, we are not able to list all the benefits we understand Kombucha can provide. We encourage you to do your own reading and online research about Kombucha and it’s possible benefits.

Do a Google search! There is MUCH information on Kombucha and many amazing testimonies. You might want to include the terms: pro-biotic, live enzymes, organic acids and polyphenols in your search!

I found this blog and this blog post very helpful.

And by all means, meet us at a Kombucha tasting near you!

  2. Hi Rene,
I really enjoy your Kombucha. It’s lovely. I’d like to be able to buy it in bulk – or a least not in individual glass bottles. My family and I can drink A LOT of it – but I can’t justify amassing so many bottles. Do you have any plans to make it in larger flagons or large plastic contains?
    Thanks very much,
    Shelly

    • Haha! Yes, Shelley, I’m just negotiating with a retired petrol station in Auckland. We’ll have Kombucha on the pump there 😉
No seriously, at this point 750ml bottles only. I’m happy to take the empty bottles back from you. They are always welcome as sample bottles! Have you considered making it yourself? The Wise Cicada in Newmarket and CERES Wholefoods in Ellerslie are selling my starter kits…

    • Hi Mia, both Farro Fresh in Auckland and Moore Wilson in Wellington are selling my Kombucha for $15.50/bottle. I suggest you get one of my starter kits and make your own! Way cheaper!!! Where are you based?

    • I have a fixed wholesale price plus freight. Shipping from Warkworth is incuring a higher freight cost than to Auckland, hence the higher price. Taste Nature in Dunedin is selling my starter kits.

  4. Kia ora, I’ve been using your starter kits successfully for 6 months. I’d like to try the Celestial Seasonings teas you suggest. Where can I buy them in Auckland?
